Essay on Buddhism - 916 Words

Buddhism is probably the most tolerant religion in the world, as its teachings can coexist with any other religions. However, this is not a characteristic of other religions. The Buddhist teaching of God is neither agnostic nor vague, but clear and logical. Buddhism was created by Siddhartha Gautama, who was born in the sixth century B.C. in what is now modern Nepal. Siddhartha grew up living the extravagant life of a young prince. His father was Suddhodana and was the ruler of the Sakya people. According to custom, he married a young girl named Yasodhara at the age of sixteen. The Buddha objectively examined the phenomena of life. Studying effects and tracing their ca uses, he produced a science of living which ranks with any other science known to man. He de- scribed life to be one and indivisible. Man, he declared, can become Buddha, Enlightened, by the principle of Enlightenment within. This process is simply to become what you are, to de- velop to the full innate Buddha-Mind by destroying the igno- rance, sin, and evils of human nature. According to the Buddha, all forms of life can be shown to have three characteristics in common; impermanence, suffering, and an absence of a permanent soul which separates itself from other forms of life. The Buddha also pointed out that nothing is the same as it was only a moment ago. Everyone and everything are constantly changing. There is no rest within the universe, only a ceaseless becoming and never-ending change. Buddhism denies that man has an im- mortal soul. Video Production Team For Happy Fresh Company - myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Video Production Team For Happy Fresh Company. Answer: The following is a report for the project assigned to the video production team of the Happy Fresh organization. The video production group consists of eight members whose main objective is to market the business through creating awareness and education. To achieve this goal, the team is required to create two videos that market the business and publish them online to reach as many audiences as possible. The videos should be of good quality in terms of clarity and audibility. Good quality videos are received well by the audience, hence, creating a good image for the company. The Video should also have a good sound and loud and clear for viewers. Since Happy Fresh is an online groceries shopping company (Nawi, N.M.N.M., 2010), the advertisements are to be done via social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Social media provides a wide market base where target customers can be identified. The methods of analysis of the project include reviewing how the videos are perceived by the target group on the social media. For instance, going through the comments and reactions, love and like, sad or happy e.t.c posted on Facebook. The reactions to the posts such as likes or dislikes are expected to be a clear indication of the successfulness or failure of the project. Calculations such as ratios used as estimation methods can be located in the appendices (Template.net, 2016). The results of the project data have been analyzed and included in this paper. The results show that the ratios are average. The videos reached many people as expected. This is evidenced by the number of view and clicks that have been indicated in the report. Although the response in terms of Facebook comments was inadequate, the overall statistics were satisfactory. Despite the limited resources and short time frame, the project can be deemed to be a success. However, the areas of weakness need to be investigated and remedied. Some of the recommendations have been included in the project paper to remedy the weakness areas that were identified during the project. The recommendations include the following; improving the resources allocated to such projects to achieve more excellent outcomes, increasing the time frame allocated for such projects etcetera. Since every project has its shortcomings (Template.net, 2016), the limitations of the project have also been investigated. One of the limitations is that the data collected during the project is not sufficient. For example, the fewer responses obtained from Facebook comments limits the degree of accuracy. Another limitation is that the resources used were not good enough to guarantee high-quality results. The videos were not clear enough. To note, if the videos is not clear enough even the results are barely accurate, the response from viewers is and cant be reliable. The shortcomings played a considerable role in weighing down the success of the project. References Happyfresh.com. Andy can be characterized by such qualities as resourcefulness, persistence and ability to analyze risks. Andy is resourceful as he has loads of ideas. He is persistent as he continues working on his major project, i.e. his escape from the prison. He also can analyze situations properly and he understands which risks should be avoided. Another entrepreneur in the film is the warden, Samuel Norton. Of course, it is necessary to note that only the general idea of entrepreneurship is used. Norton decides to start up a business and take some risks in order to gain profit. His business is illegal since he uses inmates as workforce and gets kickbacks from his clients. Remarkably, Norton can be regarded as an example of a bad entrepreneur. Apart from starting up an illegal business, he has qualities which make him unsuccessful. Norton is able to see business opportunities. Thus, he uses Andy as his tool to make money as Andy generates business ideas. However, Norton is not quick-witted enough. He has to rely on his subordinate. At the same time, he does not understand that he puts too much pressure on the subordinate and forces him to start up his own business. Norton also fails to analyze risks properly. All these factors lead to his total failure. His illegal activity is revealed and he kills himself to avoid imprisonment. One more entrepreneur is Brooks who is a well-educated man who can manage specific operations. He manages the prison’s library and he is able to live quite a good and peaceful life in the prison. Nonetheless, he is absolutely unable to adjust to new circumstances. When he is freed on parole, he cannot start living a new life in the world which has significantly changed. He commits suicide.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! The Notorious Aaron Burr essays

The Notorious Aaron Burr essays Aaron Burr was born on February 6, 1756 in Newark New Jersey. His father, Reverend Aaron Hall, was the president of the college of New Jersey, which was changed to Princeton after the college was moved there. He was a professor of mathematics, Greek, and Latin. His mother Esther was daughter of Jonathon Edwards, one of Americas most famous religious leaders (Schachner 3-18). Aaron also had a sister named Sally (Schachner 11-18). Reverend Aaron died from fever in 1757, and Esther died from smallpox less than one year later. Aaron and Sally were then taken care of by Esthers parents (Ingram 18-19). After their grandparents death in 1759, Aaron and Sally were sent to live with their Uncle, Timothy Edwards, in Elizabethtown New Jersey (Ingram 19). His uncle, who thought he was a troublemaker, often beat Aaron. Aaron was very unhappy there and tried to run away twice. The only time Aaron was happy was when he was studying with his tutor, Tapping Revere, a young Princeton graduate (Ingram 23). Tapping Revere married Sally, and ended up being friends with Aaron for life (Schachner 19). Aaron was an exceptionally good student. At the age of 11, he applied for admission into Princeton College, but was denied due to his age. He was accepted two years later in 1769, and was so advanced that he was placed in the sophomore class. Aaron was invited to become a member of the Cliosophic Society, a debating club. The main topics debated in this club were the famous issues at the time, unfair taxation and British control. Among peers, Aaron was considered a powerful speaker who was able to persuade others to accept his beliefs. (Ingram 24-26) Aaron graduated from Princeton in 1772, at the age of 16. He then followed the footsteps of the men in his family, and began religious studies in the fall of 1773. Aaron soon came to find that his personal beliefs did not agree with the religious principles he was being ta...

Waiting for a Delayed Flight Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Waiting for a Delayed Flight - Essay Example The implications of such a delay are equally very costly, not only to an individual traveler but also to the flight company as well (Forbes, 2). Flight delays result from such reasons as repair and maintenance of the aircraft, security issues domestically or within the intended destination, issues stemming from the airport crew as well as possible delays in the arrival of the respective aircraft. Other causes may be such as delays in baggage loading, furling, traffic congestion and such natural calamities as unfavorable weather conditions. In the event that such unfortunate occurrences happen, passengers awaiting departure often suffer greatly. The result of delayed flight includes lateness for strategic appointments, failure to meet deadlines as well as losses from delayed delivery of perishable products among others. Besides such losses, individuals often are stranded within the airport and are likely to incur other costs such as in refreshments as well as securing personal accommo dation services in case the delay is beyond a single day. I happened to experience a flight delay in a leading African tourism destination where I spent my summer holiday last year. This formed a memorable experience in my life has never experienced such in my years of air travel. Though accompanied by my parents, I felt so much devastated by the experience because this was the first time I experienced such a delay. The airport had very disturbing loud noises from the landing and taking off air engines, which made me have a very severe headache. My parents decided to take a stroll in the neighborhood of the airport but I was unable to accompany them due to a headache I suffered. They took me to one of the waiting bays where barely anyone else was and left me lodged on a chair as is shown by the picture. This was equally no comfortable as the disturbing noises were still very loud and clear. Moreover, the sight of the landing and taking off planes kept disturbing me as the waiting ba y provided a very clear view of the running lanes.

Film review Movie Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Film - Movie Review Example Thesis statement Success in moviemaking demands the incorporation of a good plotline, believable characters and a socio-cultural strong theme, as is seen in the movie Mean Streets. Summary of the Plot Charlie is the protagonist in the film. He works for his uncle, Mr. Giovanni who is the head of a New York mafia gang. Charlie attempts to rise through the ranks of mafia organization, but his Catholic convictions and sense of responsibility towards his friend Johnny Boy dissuade him. Charlie is having a secret affair with Teresa, Johnny’s cousin who is ostracized because she is epileptic. Charlie attempts to secure redemption from the Catholic Church, unsuccessfully. He resorts to succoring Johnny as a way of realizing this redemption. Johnny goes to Michael’s bar, where Michael unsuccessfully coerces him into settling his debts. This leads to a brawl between the two. Later on, Michael and his henchmen trail the Johnny, Charlie and Teresa, engaging them into a drive-by sh ooting. Johnny is shot in the neck and Charlie who is also the driver, in the hand. This causes the car to crush. An ambulance arrives and its paramedics whisk away the three to a hospital (Mean Streets, 1). Dimensions and Criteria for Evaluating the Film Different dimensions can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a movie. The four main dimensions include: the use of sound; composition of the movie; theatrical dimensions of the film image; and the dimensions between artistic traditions and the movie. The theatrical dimension which mainly factors the film image is well seen in the way Scorsese as the movie director uses lighting and its different entities. For example, at an instance, Giovanni as the leader of the New York Mafia gang is depicted against a dark background, in his secret rendezvous. Herein, Giovanni has a cigar in his hand, convincing Charlie to severe his association with his Johnny Boy, since honorable men hang with honorable men. This clearly helps the audienc e identify Giovanni as a villain and his rendezvous as a crime den. There are several criteria that are applicable in evaluating the film. The story, characters, direction and overall effectiveness of the film are some of the criteria that can be used to evaluate Mean Streets. Touching the criterion which is the storyline, Mean Streets is a success because the storyline has complete concomitance with the intent of the movie. It is obvious that the author intended to bring out the aspect of democratization of religion, in the movie. The movie’s storyline brings out this aspect successfully. Charlie is good-willed, despite the rut he finds himself in. The convictions he has for Catholicism is still deeply etched in his person and he resultantly seeks redemption in the Catholic Church, albeit unsuccessfully. He sacrifices himself for his friend Johnny to gain this redemption. The church’s act of turning down Charlie’s noble intent effectively brings out the failure of religion to democratize. This also serves as a clarion call for change. The characters remain believable throughout the movie. Cesare Danova as Giovanni possesses a serious mien which fits the role he plays as the local caporegime. Giovanni sits in his office well dressed and smoking a cigar. He tells Charlie that honorable men go with honorable men. This helps portray Giovanni as the ringleader of the mafia group. At the same time, the same

Concepts in Differential Privacy

Concepts in Differential Privacy Abstract Stored data in search log is insecure process to the search engine. Search log contains extremely sensitive data, as evidenced by the AOL incident. To Store information in the search log is identify the behavior of user. To maintain this sensitive data is risky process, because some security methods containing the drawbacks. Search engine companies provide security for search logs, in some cases intruder identifies the stored data then loss occurred. This paper provides security methods for the search data against the intruder. To store the data in the search log based on the keywords, clicks, queries etc. Anonymization is the method provides security for data but it loss the granularity. And another method is â‚ ¬-differential privacy provide utility for the problem. (â‚ ¬,∂)-probabilistic privacy used to calculate the noise distribution. ZEALOUS algorithm propose in this paper provide effective results with (â‚ ¬1,∂1)-indistingushability. This paper concludes w ith the comparable utility with the k-anonymity, â‚ ¬-differential privacy. To this algorithm produce the effective result. Keywords: Security, Privacy, Data Anonymity, Information Protection, Differential Privacy, Histogram INTRODUCTION To publish the search query logs are useful to know the behavior of a user. To interact users into search engine information stored in the form of search log. This stores the information based on the following schema {User_id, Query, Time, Clicks} Here User_id identifies the particular user. Query identifies the group of keywords to be searched by the user in search engine. User search the keyword in search engine like â€Å"Java† then relevant information related to Java will be occurred in the browser. User clicks on the particular link it will store in the search log as number counts. And also store the time of the click on the user. Single user consists of a user history or search history by the search entities. User history partitioned into sessions by the similar queries. Queries can be grouped into form a query pair, this used for the preparation of data in the search log. Query pairs can be divided into sessions and each session contains the subsequent query. Generally keywords can be divided into two ways. Those are 1. Frequent 2. Infrequent 1. Frequent Keyword: Previous methods only introduce these keywords. Because of this keywords are produce easily with search logs compare to the infrequent. Users search the keyword in the search engine based on that criteria identify the frequent keywords. 2. Infrequent Keywords: Proposed method for this paper is to publish search log with infrequent keywords. To publish this keyword is to loss the utility and produce less results compare to frequent keywords. In the previous method k-anonymity the main aim of this method is to define effective anonymization models for query log data along with techniques to achieve such anonymiation. Publishing of user query search logs has become a sensitive issue. To develop anonymization methods to publish the searc log data without breaching privacy or reduce utility. Drawback of this method is to identify the data to the external linked attributes. Introduce Quasi-identifier to the identification of an individual by combining to the external data. Following is an example data set User Registration Search_log Fig 1: Anonymization of the data In the above tables explains that the user registration contains all the user details of the user history. Search_log table contains the data of the user searched data. These two tables are externally linked to each other with this data loss occurred. Putting these searches together may easily reveal the identity of the user. The idea behind this k-anonymity is provide guarantee to each and every individual and hidden the group of size k with respect to the quasi-identifiers. To produce the search logs with â‚ ¬-differential privacy provide good utility, but problem with the search logs is noise added to the search logs. Several methods are used to produce random noise in the differential privacy. According to this paper classify them as two categories Data-independent noise Data-dependent noise Adding noise to the data this data-independent noise is most basic one. Laplace noise addition belongs to this category. Compare to the data-dependent noise is most complex, but usually they lead to less distortion being introduced. But this paper focus on the data-independent noise, which is most frequently uses in data sets. To produce effective results with â‚ ¬-differential privacy add laplace distribution to the result. Zealous algorithm consists a two phase framework for the purpose of identify the frequent items in the search log. And set two threshold values to publish the search logs with more privacy. Search engine companies apply this algorithm to generate statics with (â‚ ¬,∂)-probabilistic differentially private to retaining good utility for the applications. Beyond publishing search logs this paper believe that findings are of interest when publishing frequent item sets. This algorithm protects privacy against much stronger attackers than those compare the previous methods. RELATED WORK Search Log Anonymization In the previous incident occur in the AOL search log, it reveals the data of a user. Adar propose a method it appears at least t times before it can be decoded, which may potentially remove too many unused queries. And another method tokenize each query and hashes the corresponding log identifiers proposed by Kumar at el.[21]. This method improve the frequency of the search and leaks the data through hidden tokens. To overcome the problems in previous method introduce the anonymization models have been developed for search log release. Hong et al. [17] and Liu at al.[23] anonymized search logs based on k-anonymization which is not accurate as differential privacy. Xiong at el. [15] presents the query log analysis applications and various granularities of releasing log information and their associated privacy threats. Korolova et al. [20] release first applied the accurate privacy notion to release the search log based on differential privacy by adding Laplace noise. To add the Laplace noise to the counts of selected queries and urls is straightforward directly maximize the output utility with optimization models. Publish the frequent keywords, queries and clicks in search logs and comparison for two relaxations of â‚ ¬-differential privacy. This paper works related to framework for collecting, storing, and mining search logs in a distributed manner. Differential Privacy Dwork at al. [7,8] propose the definition of differential privacy. A randomized algorithm is differential private if for any pair of neighboring inputs, the probability of generating the same output. This means that two data sets are close to each other, a differential privacy algorithm behave same on the two data sets. This process provide sufficient privacy protection for user data. And also introduce the data publishing techniques which ensure â‚ ¬-differential privacy while providing accurate result. Search queries contain sensitive information it can lead to re-identification, approaches include query results, user-id to prevent re-identification of individuals from the search queries. This approach differs from the above it interact access framework that does not directly depend on anonymization for privacy, it differs from the semantic policies and differential privacy.

Abandoning Satan Essay -- Essays Papers

Abandoning Satan In Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, the author employ’s several different themes to suggest a tone of tragedy. Those include abandonment, tragic flaw, and the punishment exceeds the crime. The two main characters, Victor Frankenstein and his monster, are deemed as tragic heroes in Shelly’s novel. Webster defines a hero as â€Å"a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.† Frankenstein and his monster each have their own levels of tragedy. Shelly also supplies each character with flaws and imperfections. The punishments for creating the monster are greatly harsher than the crime of creating it. Abandonment is the first main theme in the novel. Abandonment is defined as â€Å"to give up completely and to desert†(Webster 1). Both Frankenstein and his creation go through several different episodes of abandonment. Frankenstein abandons his family, his creation, and his homeland. The monster abandons his non-evil state of mind, and then society. Young Victor abandons his monster because of its wretchedness. What began as a man ends up a mockery, and a â€Å"hideous being of gigantic structure†(Tropp 62). Victor barely even thinks twice about leaving his creation. The shear ugliness of it took over all thought of whether it could be good or evil or if it needed anything. The monster had â€Å"no father [to watch his] infant days† and, â€Å"no mother to bless [him] with smiles†(87). The monster was a â€Å"poor, helpless, miserable wretch,† with no one to turn to (72). When the creation woke up Victor instantly left the building. T he creator never saw his creation after that until he was detained by it. The creation was left to â€Å"struggle with a child’s blindness, added to a student’s thirst for knowledge† (23). Frankenstein’s next episode of abandonment tears him away from his family. Victor leaves home to go study at college. In the mean time his family and his beloved Elizabeth got left out of his priorities. He wished to exert â€Å"his own selfhood† over others (Walling 45). Frankenstein, â€Å"so deeply engraved in [his] occupation,† never ceased to think about his family. He thought only of himself and how to command the powers of life as he worked so diligently on his creation and studies. He misses seven years of his family’s life in consequence to his actions. ... ...to be destroyed by it (Tropp 56). Frankenstein shows to depart from â€Å" his dream of becoming godlike in direct proportion to his failure to love† his family and his work (Walling 45). The monster has flaws man cannot have or posses. The monster is demonic and Satan-like. He is the â€Å"monstrous double of Lucifer† (Tropp 68). The monster turned from archangel to arch destroyer. â€Å"In Paradise lost, after the meeting a Pandemonium, Satan decides to fly to earth and inspect gods latest creation. Taking the form of a cormorant, he perches on a tree in Eden and secretly observes Adam and Eve in the garden. After the monster has left the shepherd’s hut, traveled to a village, and been driven out in a hail of stones, it hides in a hovel where it can secretly observe the lines of a noble family reduced to poverty† (Tropp 72-73). This passage tells how the life of Satan and the monster are parallel. When the monster â€Å"reflected that they had spurned and deserted me anger returned† (101). Satan feels the same type of torment as he spies on Adam and Eve. The interplay of Frankenstein/Monster is somewhat like the relationship between Lucifer/Satan.

The Power Of Big Business - 1183 Words

1939: Germany invades Poland, France and Great Britain enter the war, and war rages all over Europe throughout the course of the year (PBS; 2007). During this turmoil and chaos abroad, the United States clings to its principles of freedom and democracy, described in Roosevelt’s 1939 State of the Union (â€Å"Franklin Delano Roosevelt†). So when the film, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, criticizes the very governmental foundations the country so desperately clings to, the film is not met with enthusiasm but rather controversy. The movie criticizes the power of big business and its influence on public opinion, insinuating the shift from a true democracy to an oligarchical system of government (Levy 2015). Big business has controlled American politics for years, but the film demonstrates the extent of its control. Jim Taylor, the antagonist in the plot, is a business mogul who has impressive power over many politicians as well as the media. His influence is first seen in the opening scene after Hubert Hopper is tasked with naming a replacement Senator after Senator Foley passes away. Hopper’s replacement pick is greatly impacted by Jim Taylor. Taylor suggests Horace Miller despite the public’s support for Henry Hill, however, Henry Hill cannot be manipulated by Taylor, so Taylor despises the idea. While discussing other options for a replacement, Taylor basically threatens Hopper’s job, stating that since he was the one who started Hopper’s political career, that he can also end it.Show MoreRelatedTighter Big Business From Abusing Their Power995 Words   |  4 Pagescorrupt side of society was covered with a thin sheet of gold. Types of Plagiarism Example For Students

Types of Plagiarism Plagiarism is something unacceptable and strictly punishable. Any student may face problems with plagiarism in a learning facility. You are definitely lucky if tutors forgive you for the first time, but some learners end up with dismissal. To avoid this disgraceful moment, you should know all about the issues with originality and be able to distinguish between various types of plagiarism. Outline1 Complete Plagiarism2 Source-based Plagiarism3 Direct Plagiarism4 Self or Auto Plagiarism5 Paraphrasing Plagiarism6 Inaccurate Authorship7 Mosaic Plagiarism8 Accidental Plagiarism Complete Plagiarism This is the worst form of plagiarism involving deception and publishers’ copyright violation. It often occurs when a person takes a published work, a research work or an academic paper written by another author as his/her own not mentioning any source texts. This rarely happens in the academic settings since all academic works are controlled with the help of plagiarism checkers by the tutors. If a student is involved in such a form of plagiarism when one has used someone else’s work that was published before, most probably, this behaviour will be detected. Complete plagiarism can be a reason for initiating a court provision. Source-based Plagiarism We will write a custom essay on Types of Plagiarism specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It takes place when one falsifies or specifies incorrect source. For example, it may happen if you can’t find correct source and fabricate it by yourself to reach the required number of source texts. Another form of source-based plagiarism is when the writer of a research work cites a primary source instead of the required secondary one. Research data fabrication may lead to grave outcomes for those involved in it because it makes an impact on research results. In their turn, false results can lead to the unwanted consequences if the investigation is conducted in medicine or construction fields. Direct Plagiarism It’s easy to understand this type of plagiarism: direct copying and pasting the parts of texts from a source, while not citing source texts properly, it’s called direct plagiarism. It has nothing to do with paraphrasing. In other words, if one keeps wording and structure of the initial source the same, then direct plagiarism appears. Here, if a person even changed several words to prove your authorship, any plagiarism checker is to detect it, and your research paper can be easily indicated as 100% plagiarised by tutors. If one needs to cite something, he or she can simply apply quotation marks. Self or Auto Plagiarism Self plagiarism happens once a student cites himself/herself unintentionally by utilizing the same points he/she has used for other papers, which have been already submitted for grading. Another situation of self plagiarism appearance is using student’s own previous academic papers as source texts to submit for another class. This will not work since you’ve already used this write-up, and it’s in the base of all the papers ever submitted to any universities. Hence, using the same paper for the second time is considered to be self plagiarism even if you’re the author. However, if you cite your papers written in the past, this isn’t defined as unoriginal. Paraphrasing Plagiarism In essence, paraphrasing isn’t plagiarism and is the most common form of plagiarism. It becomes plag when one rephrases a source but doesn’t specify its origins. For example, if one reads a source, rewrites a text and then poses as his/her own ideas, which especially concerns translated texts. Thus, it’s essential to cite the source texts to get rid of plagiarism. Inaccurate Authorship This type is conceptually different from patchwork paraphrasing. It can take place if someone contributes to writing a published work having no credit for it. The same problem occurs if a learner gets credit for the work not contributing to its creation. This form of plagiarism might appear if someone makes substantial changes editing different texts. One way to avoid it is to list contributors in a publication. .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .postImageUrl , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:hover , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:visited , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:active { border:0!important; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:active , .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891 .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8e820b1a60300d52a1da08abf6b9e891:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: What is plagiarism?Mosaic Plagiarism Mosaic is also referred to as a patchwork paraphrasing or plagiarism. It’s sometimes called incremental plagiarism. These three types are actually the same. Mosaic plagiarism is when a person places the parts of different texts to compose a new one. New texts structures remain the same as in the original texts, but the former involves a slight amount of rewording. In a word, mosaic plagiarism relates to incorrect paraphrasing rather than a failure to cite a source correctly. Patchwork paraphrasing is a bad choice to shorten the time for academic paper writing as online plagiarism checkers can easily detect it. If detected, tutors may subtract points or even make everything to dismiss you from college. Accidental Plagiarism It occurs if an author of the work plagiarises unintentionally. Tutors should consult students regarding it because it may result from neglecting the requirements or by mistake. Amongst the abovementioned forms of plagiarism, this one is the least severe. Plagiarism is a grave mistake to be hardly corrected. Its different forms may be used either intentionally or unintentionally. However, this doesn’t reduce your responsibility. Colleges and universities apply severe punishments to those learners who use this approach in academic writing. Here we listed all the types of plagiarism to take place both in academic, press and fiction literature. Tutors can detect plagiarism by running texts through special online programs. Therefore, learners are strongly recommended to get rid of plagiarism in any form.

How the course works: Students must arrange their schedule to include computer time to complete and submit the work that is required for the course. Our discussion will include the roles that both the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FAST) and the Securities and Exchange commission (SEC) Till In tens process. We wall also review a sample AT corporate Telling required by the SEC. These filings are required of all public entities; those whose securities are listed on any stock exchange in the U. S. Next, we will spend some time becoming familiar with the Abss Accounting Standards Codification (the Codification or ASS). This Codification Project was finalized during the summer of 2009 and the ASS includes all relevant authoritative accounting literature (GAP) issued by both the FAST and the SEC. The ASS will be your source for all accounting research assignments during the quarter. Your familiarity with the ASS will make you much more proficient in your ability to complete accounting research projects as you begin your professional careers. Regarding accounting research, one of my main objectives in this course is to get you out of your so-called comfort zone insofar as financial accounting is concerned. In most financial accounting courses you have been expected to find the one, correct answer in a given set of circumstances. For example, you were expected to learn the one, correct way to calculate the amount of interest to accrue on a note receivable or payable. Similar expectations characterized your tax courses in that you were expected to identify the precise tax treatment for investment income or charitable contributions. In this course you will quickly learn that in many areas of financial accounting and reporting, as in tax accounting, there is not always one obviously correct answer. As a matter of fact, you may discover that in some situations multiple correct answers can be supported. The time that you dedicate to learning how to perform accounting research in an efficient and effective manner will be valuable to you in discovering solutions to obscure accounting issues and learning how to use the authoritative literature to support the conclusions you reach regarding these issues. The portion of the course dedicated to accounting research will often not be as concerned with the black and white areas of financial accounting as it will be with the gray areas. In your careers, you will quickly learn that there are numerous gray areas in financial accounting. The course will also address various financial accounting topics including revenue recognition, fair value measurement and disclosures, and earnings quality issues as they relate to financial reporting. Revenue recognition is one of the most abused financial accounting principles in that businesses may be tempted to manipulate revenue recognition rules to manage or smooth their earnings. The trend toward the use of fair values in financial reporting is growing and we will review current authoritative literature related to this topic. Interestingly, many have blamed the most recent economic crisis, particularly in the banking industry, on disclosures related to fair values. We will also spend time identifying the factors that contribute to the overall quality of reported earnings and what factors detract from that quality. In March 2008, the SEC began allowing foreign companies to file uncial statements prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (FIRS) without reconciliation to US GAP. Before March 2008 reconciliation was required. As a result, the significance of FIRS will be emphasized in the course. You will be given an assignment on the first day of class that requires you to read and answer questions related to several documents issued by the SEC concerning the use of FIRS in SEC filings and the possibility that FIRS will ultimately be adopted in the United States. The assignment will be due toward the end of the quarter. At that mime, we will examine a under AT accounting topics Ana compare Ana contrast tenet treatment between the requirements of US GAP and those found in FIRS. Part of this discussion will focus on distinguishing between rules-based and principles- based accounting systems. We will conclude the course with an overview of key issues as they relate to ethics in accounting and auditing. I realize that most of you are taking this course as you complete your MESA Program approach graduation. Keep in mind that although the end of your academic experience at Default is approaching, this course requires a significant commitment on your part and my expectations for your participation and performance during the term are high. In reality my expectations for this class are similar to those that your employer will have once you begin your careers. You will be expected to read, perform research, draw conclusions and support these conclusions using the authoritative literature, participate in group assignments, write effectively, ask questions, and, above all, to commit to continual learning. You can help insure your success in this course by setting high expectations for yourself. I can assure you that the level of meaningful input and conscientious effort that you devote to this course will have a significant impact on what you learn. And, what you learn will translate into your course grade. In other words, your level of personal commitment to the challenges of this course will be closely related to the payoff for that commitment. CLASS STRUCTURE: The format of a particular class meeting will vary from week to week. I will spend a number of class meetings presenting lecture material. Other classes meeting will be used for group presentations, either formal or informal. Certainly, in every class I ill attempt to initiate classroom discussions where any and all input will be encouraged and given full attention. Given the above flexible and changing class format structure; I have identified the following list of responsibilities or expectations for you as graduate accounting students in a professional program at a major university. Commit to learning rather than grades. It is incumbent on you to recognize the benefits of learning. If you have not already, you will soon discover that if you are genuinely committed to learning, your objective for making a good grade will almost certainly be realized. This commitment requires that you a make a complete and conscientious effort on every assignment and exam. Commit to your group. A significant portion of your grade (35%) will be based on work you submit and/or present as a group. It is your responsibility to make a conscientious commitment to your group on all assignments. Making deals within a group where a certain member or members is excused from work on a particular project in return for doing more work on another is not what I expect. When you begin your careers and are asked to participate in group projects, I can assure you that this arrangement will not be acceptable. Your commitment to learning (see above) requires commitment to each and every group activity. Preparation. Be familiar with the class material to the extent possible before coming to class. I will provide you with an outline for note-taking purposes on DEL prior to each class when I will be lecturing. Your familiarity with the lecture material prior to class will make learning much sealers Ana wall needle you to participate more Tally In classroom Locutions. You should have ample time to review the outline prior to class. Participate in class. I want to know your opinions and viewpoints regarding the various accounting issues we cover. Oftentimes, students have perspectives that their peers (and l) may have not considered. Your input is essential to the overall learning process. View our class as a learning community rather than as a group of disparate individuals without common interests. In a learning community, all members have the responsibility to not only learn but to contribute to the learning of others in the community. Have a positive attitude. A good attitude about learning will make a world of difference. Provide constructive feedback to me and to your classmates. Our classroom discussions will often involve reacting to the views or presentations of others. Your moments are welcome and encouraged and should always be made professionally and respectfully. Ask questions. Try not to be concerned that your questions are stupid or that everyone else already knows the answers. Part of any learning process involves thinking about issues in ways that you are not accustomed. To get the most from this aspect of the learning process, it is critical to have an environment where questions are openly asked and welcomed by all. COURSE REQUIREMENTS As the discussion above indicates, group work, including presentations, will be significant component of this course. In addition, your participation in discussions in al class sessions is critical to your success. As a result, regular attendance is not optional. In particular, you must be present for all of your groups scheduled presentations to receive credit. In other words, if you miss class when your group is scheduled for a presentation, you will not receive credit for that presentation regardless of how much you contributed to the preparation of the presentation materials. If you discover that you must miss ANY class, let me know before that class. If the class you must miss is a presentation date for your group AND you have informed of your absence beforehand, you may ask me to prepare a make-up assignment to ensure that you have learned and understand the material missed and to allow you to receive credit for the presentation. Any make-up assignments will include an oral presentation. Absent extraordinary circumstances, I will not allow anyone to make up work for more than one missed presentation. Finally, arriving for class on time and not leaving early or during class except for scheduled breaks is a matter of personal and professional responsibility and respect for your classmates and me. As a result, I expect all of you to be on time and I strongly request that you tot leave class at any time other than during the scheduled class break. If you anticipate having to leave class early or at any time other than at the break, please let me know before class. Should you fail to exhibit responsibility and respect in this regard, you and I will meet to discuss the issue. Group Assignments: A glance at the Assignment Table should make it obvious that you will have a number of opportunities to complete group work. The group assignments will include both writing exercises and oral presentations and will focus on assigned readings, research, and materials covered in class. Assignment of students to groups will be made at my discretion. I expect all group members to contribute in a meaningful way to all assignments and I anticipate giving the same grade to all members off group for all group assignments. Arrangements where a group member gets a free pass on an assignment in return for extra work on another is not acceptable and I expect to be informed immediately if this is happening. These arrangements serve no purpose except to insure that not everyone learns the relevant material. In order to encourage the behavior described above, I will ask each of you to complete a peer evaluation twice during the term; once in mid-October and once at the end of the term. The peer evaluation will provide each of you the opportunity to let me know if there is not a balanced effort and level of contribution from all of a groups members. If I am not informed of non- contributors via peer evaluations or otherwise, there is nothing I can do to rectify the situation. If I become aware of these situations, I assure you that I will address them immediately. If I am not made aware of situations where group members are getting a free ride, the result is that participating members are doing more work than is expected and non-contributors are receiving grades for work they do not complete. This is not what I intend and it is not fair for anyone involved. Finally, I reserve the right to reduce anyones course grade up to two letter grades if he or she is consistently rated poorly in peer evaluations. I expect all members of a group to be completely familiar with all aspects of an assignment. For example, when I ask questions following an oral presentation, be prepared for me to address the question to anyone in the group rather than only the individual who presented the information that is the focus of my questions. Group presentations will be of two types: formal and informal. Each group will prepare and deliver one formal presentation. This presentation will cover topics introduced in More Than a Numbers Game. Your groups presentation should mimic a professional presentation or a Job interview in terms of your attire, your presentation materials, etc. Each group should: (a) prepare discussion materials (e. G. , Powering slides) to accompany its presentation; make sure that there is consistency in terms of font, margins, headings, billeting, etc. Articulacy if slides are prepared independently; (b) upload our slides to DEL prior to your presentation so that your classmates have ample time to download them and bring them to class; if we are in a computer classroom your classmates will not need a hardcopy. A Forum will be available under the Discussions tab on DEL for this purpose; (c) assign specific speaking parts to all group members; (d) present (do not read) your remarks in a coherent and co hesive manner; (e) dress in a manner fitting of the formal scenario; your attire will count as part of your presentation grade. If you are not sure what constitutes attire appropriate for these presentations, ask me. On the date of your groups formal presentation arrive in class early enough to insure that you are ready to begin Immolate at ten Declining AT class. As you prepare Tort your Doormat presentation, imagine that it is being delivered too client or superiors at your workplace. My evaluation of these presentations will take into consideration (a) the content of the presentation materials including their quality, accuracy, and completeness, (b) the quality of the presentation itself in terms of the presentation skills that each group member exhibits including the overall flow of the presentation from speaker to beaker which is enhanced when all presenters are familiar with the entire presentation, (d) the overall professionalism of the presentation including attire, (e) the length of the presentation with respect to my directives, and (f) whether your group was completely prepared to begin its presentation on time. I will post an example of the evaluation rubric that I will use to assess your presentations on DEL. Finally, each group must email its presentation slides (with any revisions I suggest) to me within 48 hours after the presentation (6:00 p. M. On the Wednesday following your presentation). Do not post the revised slides to DEL; I will do so after I have reviewed them. The purpose of this requirement is to allow me to make the corrected slides available on the course website in a timely fashion to allow your classmates the opportunity to review the presentation content for exam purposes. Failure to meet the 48-hour deadline will result in a one letter grade reduction of your presentation grade if I receive the slides within 24 hours of when they are due; a two letter grade reduction will occur if the slides are more than 24 hours overdue. For informal presentations, each group should be prepared to lead a class discussion elated to the assignment and share its answers with the class. Evaluation of these presentations will primarily take into consideration the content, completeness, and accuracy of the information communicated as well as the effectiveness with which it is presented. Like formal presentations, all group members should have a speaking role and all group members should be completely prepared to answer questions related to any part of the assignment. With these presentations, you my dress in any way you choose and although I will provide general guidelines as to the duration of our presentations, no points will be deducted for longer or shorter presentations relative to the guidelines as long as the all relevant issues are adequately addressed. Several group written assignments are also required. These assignments are due at the beginning of the class period that they are due. If a particular assignment is due on DEL it must be posted before class time. The assignment of responsibilities and the completion of these assignments are up to the discretion of group members within the guidelines mentioned above related to participation by all group members. Specific instructions will be made prior to each assignment. Keep in mind that for exam purposes, all group members are responsible for the content of all group oral and written assignments unless I specifically exclude the content of one or more assignments. Course Grade: Your course grade will be determined as follows: FIRS Term project Written Group Assignments (likely 4 or 5) 15% Formal Group Presentation Presentations (likely 2 or 3) 10% 10% Informal Group Research Assessment Mid-term Exam Final Exam Total 5% 25% 100% As a rule, I do not give make-up exams. However, I do not object to anyone taking an exam early if your situation prevents you from taking it when scheduled. If you have what you feel is a legitimate reason for missing the midterm exam and cannot schedule it early, you must let me know of your situation before the exam is given. Should I allow you to miss the midterm exam, your final exam will count for 50% of your total course grade. Only in the most extraordinary of circumstances will you be allowed to postpone your final exam. A final comment with regard to grading: keep in mind that the grade of Incomplete s not designed for students who have fallen hopelessly behind in a course and who have little chance of catching up. This grade is reserved for students who are making satisfactory progress in a course and, due to unforeseen circumstances that are beyond their control, are not able to complete the course. Please do not ask me to give you an incomplete unless this applies to you. In addition, do not ask me to assign you extra-credit work so that you can improve your grade. There is absolutely NO chance that I will do so. You have any number of ways to earn points toward a passing grade. Again, there will be no opportunity of any kind to do work above and beyond the requirements of the course. Lastly, I realize that most of you are very close to graduation. Your nearness to graduation will have nothing to do with how I grade your performance in this course.
